Objective 6.2 – Configure and Manage Universal Logical Network Objects
Skills and Abilities
- Create/configure Universal Logical Switches
- Create/configure Universal Distributed Logical Routers
- Configure local egress
Create/configure Universal Logical Switches
Universal logical switches can only be created from the primary NSX manager and when connected to a universal transport zone.
To create a universal logical switch, navigate to Networking & Security > Logical Switches. Click the green “+”. Enter a name for the logical switch. Click Change next to Transport Zone.
Select the universal transport zone. Click OK.
Now we can see that the universal logical switch is created on the primary NSX Manager
If we look over on the secondary NSX Manager, it has been synced there too.
Create/configure Universal Distributed Logical Routers
Just like a universal logical switch, a universal logical router can only be created from the primary NSX manager.
To create a universal logical router, navigate to Networking & Security > NSX Edges. Click the green “+”. Select Universal Logical Router under Install Type and give the router a name. Click Next.
Enter a password for the admin account. Click Next.
Select the location to deploy the edge appliance. Click Next.
Configure the HA interface and other interfaces. Click Next.
Configure the default gateway if necessary. Click Next.
Click Finish.
Now if we look on the primary site, we will see the universal logical router created
Also, on the secondary side, we see the universal logical router is synced there
Configure local egress
All sites in a cross-vCenter NSX setup can use the same physical routers for egress traffic. If egress routes need to be customized, the local egress setting must be enabled when deploying the universal logical router. The local egress setting cannot be enabled once the router is deployed.
To enable local egress, during the creation of the universal logical router, click the Enable Local Egress box and then finish with the other steps to create the logical router.
